Laguiole
Coutellerie & Forges Honoré Durand, a French family-run business certified with a Geographical Indication, recognized as a living heritage company that perpetuates the tradition of excellence, opens its doors to you with free guided tours.
With our two crafts of blacksmithing and knifemaking, every step in the production of a Laguiole knife is carried out in our workshops in Laguiole. Discover our traditional craftsmanship through free guided tours all year round:
1 – The main tour: the cutlery workshop
First, seated in an air-conditioned amphitheater, you will learn about the history of Laguiole, how to spot "genuine fakes," knife sharpening, and more (with a Q&A session). In the second part, you will enter the workshop with a cutler, who will craft a Laguiole knife handle right before your eyes. Tours are available all year, Monday to Saturday. Departure times: 11:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. (For Sundays and public holidays, please contact us.) With more than 10 adults: fully guided tours for both parts. With fewer than 10 adults: guided tour + video. With fewer than 6 adults: video only.
2 – The technical tour: mechanical forge
Step into the heart of our blacksmithing craft through an educational tour to discover the manufacturing processes of blades, springs, bees, bolsters, and liners. Available all year round, Monday to Friday: self-guided and educational visit.
3 – The historical tour: our Museum and Damascus steel forging
Admire our heritage collection of forged objects and historic Laguiole knives. On some afternoons, be amazed by live demonstrations of Damascus steel forging (also known as layered steel). Available all year round, Monday to Saturday: self-guided and educational visit. Free entry with any purchase from our company.
