Les Journées du Patrimoine au Château de St-Izaire

St-Izaire

Fortified castle from the 14th century whose impressive sandstone walls hide the refinement of its internal decoration. Formerly a bishop's summer palace, this building is a listed Historic Monument that has kept some of its original features when the bishops had a way of life similar to the great feudal lords. An outstanding museum dedicated to traditional archery is nestled on the second floor of the southern wing. Seeing at the same place bow hunting equipment such as genuine or copies of bows, arrows or quivers displayed together and that have belonged to pygmy men, Bushmen, Japanese, prehistoric men or Indians is rather unusual. On Saturday, enjoy medieval activities with the Compagnie des Grands Causses. On Sunday, it's time for wooden games for children and adults.
