An outstanding defensive architecture. The Royal Fortress was built by last Count of Toulouse in 1253. It was involved in the One Hundred Years war and Cathars repression. Last Templar knights were imprisoned there.
Built by the Counts of Toulouse at a time when they were as powerful as the king of France, Najac Fortress will fascinate children and adults as it contains examples of all the tricks and stratagems used in the military art of defence. A large model is on hand to throw light on the incomparable defence system perfected in the 13th Century by Alphonse de Poitiers. Listed monument.
