THE MEDIEVAL CITY OF SEVERAC-LE-CHATEAU

A maze of narrow streets with a rich medieval heritage
Two fortified gates
give you access to the narrow streets of the city, which is one of the most extensive in Aveyron. In this almost enclosed space, noble residences are found side by side with more modest houses, and there is the 15th century Maison des Consuls, the covered market, known as the Sestayral, medieval stalls, the St Sauveur church, the archaeological museum, the fountain, the washhouse and the Maison de Jeanne, which is one of the oldest houses in Rouergue (Aveyron), dating from the 13th century.
A game booklet for children is available from the Tourist Office or can be downloaded here. In the company of Amaury the knight, they’re ready to discover the medieval city and the castle!

CHÂTEAU DE SÉVÉRAC

A medieval castle, where activities and events delight everyone.

Time and the great periods in French history have left visible marks on the building. Originally an 11th century castle, the building was then remodelled in the 14th and 15th centuries to become a small Renaissance-style palace. In summer, the château becomes the setting for a Sound and Light show and there are many activities: shows for all ages, historical and fun activities... The château de Sévérac is being impressively restored, this is a good opportunity to come and (re)discover it!
