Saint-Jean-et-Saint-Paul
Come and discover an extraordinary monument located in the village's center of Saint-Jean-d'Alcas, in southern Aveyron, just a few kilometres from Roquefort-sur-Soulzon and about thirty minutes by car from Millau !
Built in the 15th century to protect the local population from the turmoil caused by the Hundred Years' War, the fort of Saint-Jean-d'Alcas remained until the French Revolution a symbol of the power of the Ladies of Nonenque, the neighbouring Cistercian nuns who had administered this territory since the 12th century. There are several ways to discover this monument.
Self-guided tours, with a booklet or audio guide (available in english, dutch, german, italian, spanish and french languages), allow you to learn more about this harmoniously regular village fort and the various architectural features that make it unique. With these tools, you can access the refuge areas in the north walls and enjoy a superb view from the ramparts.
You can contact the Tourist Office in the commune of Saint-Jean-et-Saint-Paul to organise your visit in the best possible conditions. We look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful village !
