Chapelle des Pénitents Noirs
Magnificent Baroque chapel with a classic façade that hides a richly sculpted and painted interior. The commentary presents the organisation of the brotherhood of the Black Penitents, the counter reformation, the Baroque...
The exterior of this Baroque chapel, built in the 17th century, conserves a great simplicity: modest size, plan in the shape of a Greek cross, classical façade, curious double steeple. It surprises for the profusion of its interior decoration! Decorated with a painted ceiling and 18th century paintings, the chapel houses an 18th century sculpted wooden altarpiece, with gold leaf, representing the scenes of Passion and the life of Christ. The brightly coloured painted wooden vaulted ceiling is of a naïve style and makes reference to the cult of the cross.
