CHATEAU ET JARDIN DE BOURNAZEL

Private Renaissance château listed as a Historic Monument. One of southern France's most significant buildings with its innovative architecture and remarkable carved decor. Its gardens are classified a 'Remarkable Garden'.

During the current lockdown scheduled to last until May 2, the gardens of Château de Bournazel will remain open to the public every Sunday afternoon between 2 pm and 6 pm. According to the sanitary protocols, visitors residing less than 10km from the château will have the opportunity to visit the gardens and château courtyard during these hours.

Further announcements will be published by the château based on information and decisions taken by the government during the evolution of the health crisis. The opening hours and dates indicated on our website will be reinstated as soon as protocols allow.

The visitor will discover a Renaissance staircase, stone vaults, as well as rooms furnished with paintings, tapestries and art objects, each with a monumental fireplace. The historic monument has been one of the most important restoration projects in France since 2008.

The garden is the result of extensive academic research and a campaign of archaeological excavations. The restoration offers a coherent reconstruction of a landscape realized between 1542 and 1561. Enclosed garden consits of nine parterres themed on the education of a wealthy prince and the enigma of life. The garden includes fountains, vases, polyandrion, chamber gardens with partitions of charmilles, orchard, 'Hortus Conclusus', labyrinth, arbours, terraces and a formal pool. The combined symbolic, literary and intellectual organization recalls the ambitions of the Renaissance. It has recently been classified as a 'Jardin remarquable'.

Visiting the interior of the château is by guided tour only.

Approximate duration: 1h.
