The Aubrac transhumance festival celebrates the herds as they make their way to pasture. Decorated cows, music, markets and traditions bring this springtime event to life, bringing farmers and visitors together in a friendly, festive atmosphere.

Thursday 22 May 2025 - Discovery evening

From 7pm in the dining marquee, Place du Buronnier, Aubrac 5 €.

  • Discovery of the Transhumance area: 45-minute talk by a transhumance breeder

  • Traditional dance performance by Lo Bourreïo d'Olt

  • Snacks and tasting of local products: Label Rouge Bœuf Fermier Aubrac and PDO Laguiole cheese

  • Traditional dance lessons by Lo Bourreïo d'Olt

  • Popular ball

Participants can enjoy a cheese soup (€10) at the bar in the marquee.

No reservation required, payment on site by cheque or cash.

Friday 23 May 2025 - Touring day

Departure at 10 a.m. in Aubrac in front of the information stand and 10.15 a.m. at the pistes in Brameloup - return at the end of the afternoon - 33 €

Guided coach tour to discover the heritage of Aubrac and the Lot Valley. Picnic to be provided by participants. Programme:

  • Visit to a dairy farm producing for Jeune Montagne, meeting the herd and the farmers.

  • Visit to Ste Eulalie d'Olt, one of the most beautiful villages in France

  • Visit to the Brasserie d'Olt in St Geniez d'Olt

Saturday 24th May 2025

Salon du Terroir: ???? Come and discover the Salon du Terroir in Aubrac! ????

Immerse yourself in the authenticity and unique flavours of Aubrac by taking part in the Salon du Terroir, an unmissable event for lovers of gastronomy, traditions and artisanal products. It's a not-to-be-missed event for those who want to discover or rediscover the authenticity of the Aubrac heritage in a festive, friendly atmosphere. Talk to the people who make up the region. Meet the breeders and their black-eyed beauties. A bell exhibition will let you experience the musicality of the transhumance. Play games to discover the weight of an Aubrac bull.

On the programme at Aubrac from 10am to 6pm:

  • Guided tour of the Church of Notre Dame des Pauvres d'Aubrac. Departure every hour from the church porch.

  • Loz'Aubrac exhibition

  • Sculptor with a chainsaw

  • Reconstruction of a buron

  • Botanical garden guided tour and photo exhibition

  • Maison de l'Aubrac Exhibitions and audiovisual presentation

Entertainment all afternoon:

  • 2pm-4pm Folklore group La Quadrette Chiracoise

  • 4pm-5pm La commanderie des Chevaliers du Taste-Laguiole et des Grands Fileurs d'Aligot de l'Aubrac

  • 5pm-6pm Los Cantaïres de l'Aubrac

  • 6-9pm Apéro-concert with the trio Chapeaux de Pailles

Discovery hikes

During a 2:30 walk, the Monts d'Aubrac guides will help you discover the environmental, agro-pastoral, historical and traditional riches of Aubrac.

Departure at 10am, 2pm and 4.30pm - Meeting point in front of the Maison de l'Aubrac - €15

Over 65s: medical certificate or hiking licence required

  • Nature outing ‘Biodiversity of the Aubrac mountain pastures’ 10am, meet at the information stand - free.

  • Screening and discussion of the film ‘Éleveurs d'horizons’ (Breeders of horizons), testimonies of today's pastoralism in the Massif Central - 4pm in the Maison de l'Aubrac - free

A walk to meet the herds:

During a 2 hours 30 minutes of good walk, the Monts d'Aubrac guides will take you to meet the transhumant herds and discover the environmental, agro-pastoral, historical and traditional riches of Aubrac.

Meeting point in front of the Maison de l'Aubrac - Departure at 8.30am, 9am, 9.30am, 12.15pm and 12.45pm 22 € Medical certificate required for over-65s or hiking licence

Entertainment all day long:

  • Herds and carriages passing through and stopping between 10 am and 3 pm

  • Market of producers and craftsmen

  • Wooden games

  • Botanical garden guided tour and photo exhibition

  • Maison de l'Aubrac Exhibitions and audiovisual presentation

  • Eglise Notre Dame des Pauvres mass at 11am and blessing of the herds afterwards

  • Guided tour of the Commanderie des Chevaliers du Taste-Laguiole and the Grands Fileurs d'Aligot de l'Aubrac

  • 1pm-6pm Guided tour of the Church of Notre Dame des Pauvres d'Aubrac. Departure every hour from the church porch.

  • Loz'Aubrac exhibition throughout the festival

  • Sculptor with a chainsaw

At the Estive de Fontanilles - Col d'Aubrac

  • Herds passing through and stopping between 11am and 4pm

  • Exhibition of old farming equipment

  • Reconstruction of a buron

  • Cheese-making activities for children

  • Herding dog demonstration by the Aveyron herding dog association (ACT12)

Pasture plant discovery tour: Join a botanist for a 1 hour 30 minutes tour of the wealth of meadows on the Aubrac plateau. There are sometimes as many as 60 to 70 species per square metre! Meeting point at the Fontanilles mountain pasture - departures at 10.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm - €5

Dinner dance €33 (€20 -10 years) - 7.30pm .

Local charcuterie, Aligot with fresh Aubrac PGI Tome cheese, Aubrac meat (Label Rouge Aubrac farm beef or Fleur d'Aubrac PGI), Laguiole PDO Tome cheese, Dessert, Coffee and Wine (Estaing PDO and Marcillac PDO). The folk show by Lo Bourreïo d'Olt and the Gilles SABY orchestra are included in the price of the meal.

St Geniez d'Olt - Place du Général de Gaulle at 8am, Ste Eulalie d'Olt rive Aubrac Rive d'Aubrac at the junction of the D19 and pont neuf at 8.10am, Prades d'Aubrac - A l'hôtel restaurant Le moderne at 8.30am, Brameloup - parking des pistes at 8.45am and Aubrac - Royal Aubrac at 9am.

This also includes the return journey from Aubrac - Royal Aubrac at 5pm as follows:

Brameloup - piste car park at 5.15pm, Prades d'Aubrac - Le moderne hotel restaurant at 5.30pm, Ste Eulalie d'Olt rive Aubrac Rive d'Aubrac at the junction of the D19 and pont neuf at 5.50pm and St Geniez d'Olt - Place du Général de Gaulle at 6pm.
