Entre la vallée du Lot et l'Aubrac, Calmont d'Olt, (c) nicomphoto

Château de Calmont d'Olt

Perched on an impressive basaltic peak, the castle of Calmont d'Olt the historic monument dominates the Lot valley. Its silhouette leaves you in no doubt as to the military vocation of its ramparts built during the Hundred Years' War. Shows and live demonstrations with siege machines, an architecture discovery circuit, the "knights" game for children, and weapons and archeological exhibitions.
A fortified castle is the perfect example of Middle Age defenses, but how was it attacked? Guided and unguided tours on the theme of war in the Middle Ages- Each day, a trebuchet catapults its projectiles, the cannons roar and armed men present their swords, medieval bows, crossbows and coats of mail. Children are given knights' certificates at the end of the "Discovery Game". An exceptional view of Espalion and the Aubrac from the top of the keep which houses an archaeological exhibition.
