Flower filled mediaeval village

Nestling in a lush green site on the left bank of the Lot, downstream from Saint Geniez d’Olt, one finds the mediaeval village of Sainte Eulalie d’Olt. 11th century church, 15th century château, Renaissance hôtel and mill wheel, regulate the pace of life in this flower bedecked village where you will enjoy strolling through its twisty narrow streets. You will be delighted by the panoramic view offered by this “plus beaux villages de France” over the Lot valley.

Village of arts

For several years, Sainte Eulalie d’Olt has turned towards the arts; not only through the village’s architectural aspect, but also thanks to its inhabitants.

The most striking example is that of the artist Marcel BOUDOU, to whom a museum is dedicated. It now carries his name: Musée-Galerie Marcel BOUDOU.

Other recently installed artists have been attracted by the commune’s project “Sainte Eulalie d’Olt – Sainte Eulalie d’Art” targeting the development of a dynamic artistic centre of excellence. Fruit of this project are the Petite Ecole d'Art set up in 1998 in the old school and also the Grange des Arts.

The Sainte Epine procession

The church of Saint-Côme d'Olt houses a reliquary containing a fragment of Christ’s crown of thorns that gives rise to a procession held each year on the second Sunday in July. All the village’s inhabitants, in period costume, re-enact the main phases of the crucifixion of Christ. The festival lasts the whole weekend with a traditional dance, meal and fireworks.

La Poule Un or Lot one, a chicken

Each year at the end of October a curious auction takes place: for centuries, a bailiff has offered the first lot, a live chicken. Other lots are then offered by the parishioners: eau de vie, eggs, nuts, paintings… enabling money to be raised for the parish in order to hold a remembrance service for those no longer with us.
